The Role

The Warburg Library is seeking to recruit part-time temporary Library Assistants (2 roles, 1 year fixed term contract) to start as soon as possible.


The post holder(s) will shelve and tidy in assigned areas as required,

answer basic enquiries from Library users (such as directing users to stock or around the Library), assist in moving loaded trolleys to the appropriate areas and participate in certain aspects of ongoing collection management activities.


The post holder(s) will also assist on library desk duties and in other areas as they arise.


Requirements


This post requires lifting, bending and pushing loaded trolleys from sometimes dusty areas.

Attention to detail: The successful candidates will have the ability to learn the further complexities of Library classification schemes following instruction and to file books according to the system.


A pleasant and helpful manner when dealing with users of the library and good communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to give clear

instructions are essential to this role, as is the ability to learn to use library software.


Candidates must be able to work 13.75 hours a week and for that to be comprised of 3 to 5 hours of continuous hours of work each day Monday to Friday between 10am and 8pm during term time (10am-6pm in August and September) on a rota basis. There may be opportunities to work on the library desk in the evenings. Saturday working is possible if requested (not available August and September).
